PRÉMONTRÉS ABBEY
Touchscreen Kiosks to Guide Visitors Through Prémontrés Abbey
Prémontrés Abbey, in Pont-à-Mousson in northeastern France, wanted digital stops to help visitors find their way around the monument. They became part of its new permanent tour, opened in 2024 for the 60th anniversary of the abbey’s cultural center.
Three vertical screens and one horizontal screen make up four touchscreen kiosks. Some are set into white panels between two blocks of text, with headphones hanging below; another sits in a lectern under a window. On screen, “Cliquer pour naviguer / Click to browse” leads to a circular menu. Its entries include the abbey church, the choir, the garden, Pont-à-Mousson in the 18th century, the library, and the abbey’s heritage beyond its walls.
The abbey team set up the kiosks in-house, in PandaSuite, during the summer of 2024. The kiosks run on Windows, locked in full screen. The staff member in charge of interpretation keeps the content up to date herself in PandaSuite.
“We’re delighted to see visitors using them. We’ve noticed we’ll have some fixes to make. It’s good to be able to update the content on our own!” the team wrote.
