An iPad Space for Artist Interviews at the NC Museum of Art Exhibition

Touchscreen

In 2018, for its exhibition “You Are Here: Light, Color, and Sound Experiences,” the North Carolina Museum of Art set up a media space on four iPads in the Carol L. O’Brien Atrium. Visitors sat on a stool, put on headphones, and watched the artists talk about their process and inspiration.

The exhibition, open from April 7 to July 22, brought together immersive installations by 14 contemporary artists. The museum wanted to give visitors access to 10 to 12 video interviews.

Emily Kotecki, Visitor Experience Designer at the NCMA, built the media space on her own in PandaSuite. It was her first project with the tool. Each iPad, mounted on the wall at seated height with two pairs of headphones, opened on a grid of video thumbnails. The interviews played offline, straight from the iPads.

“It seems like I can accomplish almost anything I want with PandaSuite, from videos to images to animation,” she says. She now recommends it to other institutions that want to engage visitors with digital content on mobile devices.
